Chris Thiel graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art (ACSA) in 2010 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours. She was the winner of the Exeter Hotel painting prize in 2009; selected for the “Hatched” exhibition at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) in 2011 and was a finalist in the Bendigo Bank awards in the same year. In 2012 she received a Helpmann Academy Mentorship with artist Euan Macleod. Her first solo show was in 2011 at the ACSA Studio Gallery and since then she has been exhibiting regularly in group shows and her work is in many private collections nationally. Chris currently works in a shared studio space in Bowden South Australia.
Chris is a painter and her subject matter is driven by fears and anxieties, current and past. There is nothing overtly sinister in her paintings but they are imbued with an element of disquiet intended to unbalance us just enough to fuel our gothic imaginations.
